Immanuel Mission Team Connects with Colombians in Guatemala

Immanuel sent a mission team to Guatemala during October 7-14.  Mission team members included Immanuel members as well as representatives from Immanuel’s partner in ministry from Gachancipa, Colombia who met us in Guatemala.  The unique approach of this mission trip was for our Colombian partners to connect with Immanuel, as well as with our Guatemalan partners, so the Colombians could join us in doing cross-cultural mission work in a foreign country.  The mission team’s main focus included sharing the message of Jesus and distributing “Jesus the Good Shepherd” Bible story books while visiting about 400 families in El Durazno; sharing Jesus through a puppet ministry, skits, and songs, distributing goody bags with school supplies and healthy drinks, and providing over 100 magazines to 300 children at El Durazno public school; planting 40 avocado and lime trees for 20 families in El Durazno; and working with the children’s ministry in El Salitre by leading songs, arts and crafts, and games.

Our Colombian partners were very grateful for the prayers and support provided by Immanuel.  Deivid Contreras said, “This was much more than we expected.  We learned a lot and we’re inspired to go back and tell our church about it and want to do more in our community.  We also want to come back to Guatemala.  Whatever you need in the future, you can count on us.  We appreciate everything Immanuel has done to help us.”  Our theme was “One Jesus. One Mission. All Nations.” driven by our commitment to live out the Great Commission and Acts 1:8.  Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will continue to bring people to faith in Jesus Christ as we continue to demonstrate and proclaim the Gospel in Guatemala, Colombia, and to the ends of the earth.
