Memphis Meals of Hope

ILC MemphisEvents, News1 Comment

On Saturday, October 1, Immanuel Lutheran Church will host a Memphis Meals of Hope food packing event from 10am until noon in our school gym. This event is being held in partnership with O2 Worldwide (a business whose associates are also committed to giving back and serving) and Meals of Hope, where 50,000 nutritious meals will be assembled to help alleviate hunger and food insecurity primarily in Memphis and the Mid-South. We need your help as a volunteer to pack meals, so that this hands-on approach can truly make a difference in people’s lives. You can sign up on the sign-up sheet on the Information Desk in our church lobby, or by contacting Ed Mell at emell72@bellsouth.net or (901)849-2751. We need at least 100 volunteers. Children must be at least 8 years old to participate and under adult supervision.

In addition, on Friday, September 30 we need 35 volunteers to help unload food and equipment from the delivery truck at our school gym and set up for the food packing event.  The delivery truck will arrive between 3:00 and 5:00 PM on September 30.  Contact Ed Mell at emell72@bellsouth.net or 849-2751 if you can help with this.

The meals will be comprised of beans and rice, both fortified with soy protein and 21 vitamins and minerals. After the packing event, the meals will be distributed to various churches and ministry organizations, such as the Mid-South Food Bank, Neighborhood Christian Centers, and the Memphis Union Mission, that Immanuel and O2 works with in the community. In addition to combating hunger, these meals help people dealing with the stress and insecurity of not knowing how or when they will receive their next meal and provides some hope to carry them through another day.
