Disaster Response

Disasters disrupt personal and community life, affect many people, and cause physical, emotional, and spiritual crises. Natural disasters including tornadoes, windstorms, floods, and earthquakes can impact the Mid-South and many areas just hours from where we live.

Immanuel Lutheran Church provides disaster response in various ways. We send mission teams to disaster areas as a ministry of presence and action to help with hands-on disaster relief and recovery, which includes gutting houses; removing debris; providing care cards; providing food and household supplies; providing devotion booklets; developing relationships and witnessing by sharing and showing the love of Christ; and repairing and rebuilding homes.

Immanuel has performed disaster relief and recovery work in Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Oklahoma. We work in collaboration with Lutheran Church Charities, LCMS Disaster Response, various LCMS Districts, disaster response organizations, and local churches.

For more information on serving through Immanuel when plans are made to respond to a disaster, contact Ed Mell (phone) 901.849.2751 (Email) emell72@bellsouth.net
