On Saturday, October 1, Immanuel hosted a Memphis Meals of Hope food packing event in our school gym where 202 volunteers packaged 50,688 meals, in just a few hours. Everyone worked hard but it was lots of fun as we made progress toward our goal of 50,000 meals! The event at Immanuel was held in partnership with Meals of Hope (a non-profit organization that helps local communities with food packing events) and O2 Worldwide (a business whose associates are also committed to giving back and serving), where nutritious meals of fortified macaroni and cheese with soy protein, 21 vitamins and minerals, and packets of cheese sauce were assembled to help alleviate hunger and food insecurity in the greater Memphis area and the Mid-South.
The meals were distributed to a number of ministry organizations and churches, including the Mid-South Food Bank, Neighborhood Christian Centers, and the Memphis Union Mission, who will then provide the meals to people in need. Your time and effort devoted to helping with this event (the set-up, packing food, and take-down) is truly making a difference in people’s lives. In addition to combating hunger, these meals help people dealing with the stress and insecurity of not knowing how or when they will receive their next meal and provides some hope to carry them through another day. This was about serving Jesus and demonstrating his love in practical ways by serving others and meeting vital needs in our community. Thanks again for your help!
