Working through our partners in ministry, HopeWorks and Neighborhood Christian Centers, Immanuel has several volunteer opportunities available to help serve those in need in our Memphis community.

HopeWorks

Faith Encourager

Be a Faith Encourager to someone incarcerated at the Shelby County Correctional Facility (Penal Farm) by spending one hour a week with them during lunch.  Faith Encouragers interact with their special person for lunch at the Penal Farm to offer support and encouragement as part of the holistic approach provided by HopeWorks through which people are challenged to live a responsible, Christ-centered life.  Training and orientation for Faith Encouragers will be held in January.  If you’re interested in making a personal connection and difference in the life of a person that HopeWorks is working with through this ministry, please contact Ron Wade, Executive Director of HopeWorks, at 550-3338.

Neighborhood Christian Centers

Ballard Youth Christmas Party

Thursday, December 1  6:30 – 8:30 pm

785 Jackson Ave., Memphis 38107

This Christmas tradition, started by NCC’s founders Monroe and JoeAnn Ballard, provides a wonderful Christmas celebration to 300 youth served by NCC with a sit-down dinner, entertainment, and a special gift as a reward for their participation in NCC’s youth programs.  Volunteers are needed to help with decorations, gift wrapping, serving food, kitchen assistance, gift distribution, and clean up.

Christmas Basket Assembly

Saturday, December 10  7:00 – 11:00 am  (shifts available)

4450 S. Mendenhall (warehouse attached to Memphis School of Excellence)

NCC procures, packs, and distributes 10,000 Christmas food basket to their neighbors in need.  Each basket is filled with enough food to feed a family of four for four days.  This is an enormous undertaking and much assistance is needed from hundreds of volunteers to help fill baskets.  (Youth must be 5 feet tall to participate in the assembly process.)

If you can help with an NCC event, please contact Pamela Cox, NCC Director of Community Engagement, at pcox@ncclife.org or 881-6013.
