After worship on August 27th, about 150 members and friends of Immanuel Lutheran Church went out into the greater Memphis / Shelby County area to share the love of Jesus and serve our neighbors by participating in a variety of servant events. These events included doing community restoration projects (cleaned trash and debris from three lots; built section of fence; and cleaned up inside home) in the Beltline neighborhood of Memphis; picking up 32 bags of trash around Shelby Farms Park in East Memphis; assembling 200 hygiene kits for men being ministered to by the Memphis Union Mission; prayerwalking in the Trafalgar Village and Shelby View neighborhoods while asking God to bring a spiritual awakening and his healing presence to our community; and conducting a “Thanks for your Service” Tour by visiting 10 police precincts and fire stations while delivering healthy snacks and bottled water (impacting 280 lives at those locations) in the Memphis, Bartlett, and Cordova areas. Seven study Bibles, 147 pairs of underwear, six pairs of socks, and six t-shirts were also collected for men at the Memphis Union Mission. After serving in our community, we had time to visit during lunch which was provided at Immanuel. Thanks to all our awesome volunteers and team leaders, including those who taught the Bible study and the children’s lesson and those who helped with lunch, for making a difference for Jesus in the lives of people in our community!
